This Privacy Notice sets out how we (Goodge Law) will collect and manage your personal data. It explains when, how, why we collect your personal information; under what circumstances we may disclose it to others and how we will store and secure your data. Data is collected, processed and stored by Goodge Law Solicitors (the ‘data controllers’). We may collect your personal data in many ways, to include when:-
- You volunteer information about yourself during the course of our dealings with you.
- You volunteer information for our marketing purposes either directly with us or via our website;
- We collect publicly available information about you or your business (including electronic data sources); and
- We collect your personal data from third parties (for example, public organisations, other law firms, banks, building societies, medical or financial institutions that provide your personal records/information).
The type of personal data that we may collect
We may collect various forms of personal information such as data relating to your identity, contact details, financial, professional or any other details relating to your case.
Use of personal data
The main legitimate interest for processing your personal data is the performance of our contract with you. Without specific personal data we are unable to act for you.
The legitimate interests are to (although not exhaustive):
- Perform our contract with you;
- Conduct/manage our business;
- Comply with legal/professional responsibilities and/or regulations; and
- Adhere to internal compliance
Who has access to your data
We will process your data securely. We will not sell your information to third parties. We will not share your information with third parties. Generally, we will only use your information within Goodge Law Solicitors. However there may be circumstances, in carrying out your legal work, where we may need to disclose some information to third parties.
Examples of third parties may include (although not exhaustive) – HM Land Registry, HM Revenue & Customs, medical agencies, courts/tribunals, solicitors acting for the other side, barristers/counsel, non-legal experts, translation agencies, contracted suppliers, external auditors/regulators, banks/building societies, other financial institutions, insurance companies, providers of identity verification, any disclosure required by law or regulation (for example for prevention of financial crime, terrorism or if there is an emergency and you or others are at risk).
If your information is shared with any such third parties, we will do so on the basis that they comply, strictly and confidentially with our instructions and not to use your personal information for their own purposes unless you have given them explicit consent. There may be some uses of personal data that may require your specific consent. If this is the case we will contact you separately to ask for your consent which you are free to withdraw at any time.
How do we protect your personal data?
We have a strict policy regarding confidentiality. We store your personal information securely at our offices at 38 Great Portland Street, London W1W 8QY. We maintain high standards of technology and operational security in order to protect personal data from loss, misuse, alteration or destruction. We use computer safeguards and we enforce, where possible, physical access controls to our buildings and files to keep data safe.
Your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation
You have a right to access, be informed, rectify, erase, object to or restrict processing of your data. If we rely on your consent as our legal basis for processing your personal information, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. Complaints about the use of personal data
If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal data, you may contact Rajesh Kalia who will investigate the matter further. Marketing data
We may use your personal data that we have collected in accordance with this privacy policy to inform you of our services. We may contact you by social media, email or post. We will not send marketing communications via SMS or call you without your specific consent; nor do we ever pass on or sell your details to a third party.
